Artist Reception

March 14th 5:30-7:00pm

I first met SirIsrael when another artist, Jacob, called me up and told me there was a brilliant artist moving to town that I really needed to meet. We met up, and since then he has been finding many opportunities to show his art in the local area, beginning with being one of the original artists featured in our first ever Downtown Art Walk.

Hailing from St. Louis originally, SirIsrael is a military man. That's what caused him to load up his wife and daughters and settle in to our area. Of course, planning for this show almost a year out, we had no idea that he would be called away to do a month of training at exactly the same time he was to be hanging his work in our art spaces. Luckily, his wife juggled kids and life and single parenting and squeezed in delivering art work to me to hang in downtown. Typically we like to have an opening reception, but for Sir Israel, we are moving things around. We can’t wait to hear what he has to say about his work, and we definitely didn’t want to miss out on celebrating him. If you’re interested, March 14th, 2025, at 5:30pm will be his reception.

Here is an excerpt from his artist statement:
The central theme of my artwork revolves around the black family, black love, and black beauty. Through the use of bright and sporadic colors, I aim to make my paintings pop and convey my emotional state. I find inspiration in the beauty of various art forms like poetry, music, dance, and photography. My goal as an artist is to evoke awe and make hearts jump with joy or break with grief at the sight of my creations. My inspirations come from artists who have impacted and shaped me as a man, a believer in God, an artist, a husband, and a father.
To bring my artistic vision to life, I employ a mixture of techniques and mediums. I use paint knives to create texture, patterns, and even paint splatters that give a sense of explosiveness to my work. My preferred mediums include acrylics, oils, ink, pencils, and charcoals. However, due to the demands of being active duty military and limited painting time, I have also enjoyed creating digital works recently.
